Corporate away day ideas that work in the UAE
Away day ideas for UAE teams, organised by what you actually want the day to achieve — with real prices, real group sizes and the months each one works.
Most away day lists are a pile of activities with no organising idea. This one is arranged by the only question that matters: what do you want to be true at the end of the day that is not true now?
Answer that, and the shortlist writes itself. Skip it, and you book a desert safari for a team that needed two hours of honest conversation.
First, name the objective
There are really only four, and they lead to different days.
| If the problem is… | You need… | Not… |
|---|---|---|
| Morale is flat, people are tired | A shared experience with no agenda | A workshop |
| The team has grown or merged and does not know itself | Mixed teams, forced unfamiliarity | A day where people sit with their own department |
| A decision is stuck | Facilitation, a neutral room, a whole day | An activity day with a “strategy slot” bolted on |
| You want to say thank you | Something genuinely nice, on company time | A trust fall |
If the objective is morale
The point is that people enjoy themselves and go home talking about it. Do not put an agenda in it.
A desert evening. The least expensive genuinely memorable thing available in this market: dune drive, camp, dinner under the sky. AED 280 a person at 10–29, falling to AED 190 at 60+. October to April, five hours door to door.
A private boat night. The whole vessel is yours — your branding, your menu, your programme, a photographer. AED 620 at 10–29, AED 520 at 30–59, AED 450 at 60+. October to May.
A short multi-emirate run. Sharjah and Dubai in five hours, ending somewhere good. AED 290 at 15–29, AED 240 at 30–59, and it runs year-round because the summer version starts at 16:00.
A games day. Cheap, indoors, reliably fun, and it works for a group that spans every age and fitness level. AED 420 at 15–29 down to AED 260 at 60+.
If the objective is cohesion
New joiners, a merger, three offices that have never met. The design principle is that people must end up in teams they did not choose.
A farmhouse retreat in the Northern Emirates. Exclusive use of a private farm in Ras Al Khaimah, Sharjah or Umm Al Quwain — nobody else on site, so the group can be itself. Eleven hours door to door. AED 700 at 15–29, AED 580 at 30–59, AED 520 at 60+. October to April.
A three-emirate circuit. Dubai, Sharjah and Umm Al Quwain in nine hours, in mixed coach groups. Movement is the mechanism: people talk on a coach in a way they do not in a function room. AED 450 at 15–29, AED 380 at 30–59.
A large-format games day. For 50 to 300 people, structured competition in mixed teams. AED 620 at 50–99, AED 480 at 100–199, AED 400 at 200+.
An onboarding sprint. When the reason for the day is that a third of the room is new. Eight hours, at your own premises by default. AED 660 at 12–19, AED 590 at 20–34, AED 530 at 35+.
If the objective is a decision
This is where away days most often fail, because an activity day gets a “strategy session” attached to it and neither works.
A facilitated alignment day. Nine hours in a hotel meeting suite, deliberately off your own premises, with pre-work interviews before the day and a written outputs pack after it. AED 890 at 12–19, AED 740 at 20–39, AED 650 at 40+.
A half-day focus session. Four and a half hours in a private venue when the question is narrower. AED 530 at 16–29, AED 470 at 30–47, AED 420 at 48+.
A working retreat. A private farmhouse with a working session in the middle of it — the environment does the informality, the facilitator does the work. AED 980 at 15–19, AED 870 at 20–34, AED 780 at 35+.
An overnight. If the decision is genuinely hard, the evening is where it gets made. An overnight at a Northern Emirates farm is AED 1,170 at 20–29, AED 1,070 at 30–40. A desert camp buyout is AED 1,750 at 20–29 down to AED 1,450 at 50+.
If the objective is thank you
Do not make people work. Do not make them compete unless they want to.
- A theme park buyout: AED 520 at 15–29 down to AED 410 at 60+.
- Ski Dubai for the day: AED 560 down to AED 450. Year-round, and the novelty does not wear off.
- A wellness day — treatments, movement, a good lunch, no laptops: AED 750 at 20–29 down to AED 590 at 50+.
- A recognition evening with the long-service awards done properly: AED 390 at 40–79 down to AED 300 at 150+.
If you would rather scan the options than reason about the objective first, the priced index by occasion lists them the other way round — grouped by what you are planning, with a per-person figure against every one.
The four things that ruin an away day
Choosing the activity first. It is the single most common reason UAE away days over-run budget and under-deliver. Objective, then group size, then month, then format.
Running it in the wrong month. May to September, anything outdoors and physical is not a real option, whatever a supplier tells you. If your day has to be in July, plan an indoor one properly rather than an outdoor one hopefully.
No end time. People plan the start and let the finish drift. A day that was meant to end at 17:00 and ends at 19:30 undoes its own goodwill on the drive home. Publish the finish time on the invitation.
Booking late. Eight weeks out, the same budget buys visibly more than it does at three. In December, three weeks out often buys nothing at all.
A working sequence
- Write the objective in one sentence. If you cannot, the day is not ready to book.
- Fix the month. It decides what is available.
- Fix the group size band — “30–59” is more useful than a guess at 41.
- Choose the format from the objective, not the brochure.
- Set the budget, add 5% VAT, then confirm.

Common questions
- What is a good corporate away day idea?
- The best away day idea is the one that matches your objective. For morale, a shared physical experience like a desert evening or a boat night works. For a difficult conversation, a facilitated session in a neutral venue works. For cohesion after a merger or a lot of new hires, a mixed-format day where people are reshuffled into unfamiliar teams works. Choosing the activity before the objective is the most common reason away days disappoint.
- How much does a corporate away day cost in the UAE?
- A half-day away day runs AED 260 to AED 530 per person excluding 5% VAT. A full day runs AED 440 to AED 890. An overnight retreat runs AED 1,070 to AED 1,750. Per-person prices fall as the group grows, because transfer, venue and staffing costs are fixed and spread.
- How far in advance should we book an away day?
- Eight weeks for anything between October and April, which is peak season in the UAE corporate calendar. Two to three weeks is workable in summer and for indoor formats. December and January book out first, and a good venue at three weeks' notice in December is not usually available at any price.
- Should an away day be a half day or a full day?
- A half day if the goal is morale or a reset, because a well-run four hours does that and a nine-hour day adds fatigue rather than value. A full day if the goal is a decision or an output — alignment, planning, a difficult conversation — because those need an afternoon after lunch when the easy points have been used up.
